After meeting up, we will head towards the East End of Roatan. Before doing so, you will have the opportunity to do shop for some snacks and drinks and even for some souvenirs. This is an hour long drive depending on traffic conditions, so do not worry you will be very entertained during the entire time with plenty of stories regarding the history of Roatan and its peoples.
After arriving to the East End Communities of Parrot Tree or First Bight (depending on weather conditions), we will board a private boat and venture out into the beautiful waters of Roatan. Your private guide will submerge you in the complex and rich history of Roatan, a history that includes hundreds of years of pirates, battles and various groups all battling for control of the island and its resources.
At Jonesville you learn about one of the oldest communities on the island, one which to this day still shows unique homes and buildings all constructed on the edge of the water. If you get hungry, you may stop here for a quick lunch break.
Oakridge is known best as a fishing community. Before tourism came to the island, fishing was the main economic activity and an driver for development in Roatan. There are still many families that depend on fishing to this day. We will have a chance to dive into this rich and colorful history. This is also a perfect point to grab lunch if you are hungry.
At this point during the tour, it will be time to head back to port. Along the way we can still make very quick stops to take pictures at local scenic locations.
You’ll explore the picturesque fishing villages of Oakridge and Jonesville, glide through narrow mangrove tunnels by boat, and see traditional Caribbean stilt houses. It’s a great way to experience the real, untouched side of Roatan’s East End.
The tour typically lasts 4 to 5 hours, including boat time through the mangroves and stops in Oakridge and Jonesville for sightseeing, photos, and optional refreshments. It is important for this tour that you meet us at port early.
